5 quilts May 16, 2022

my last 5 quilts progress report April 25, 2022

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - green-  I worked on blossom time this week and I have used all my stems and leaves. I need to cut and make more. I will already be in the green scraps, so, it is a good time time to cut more.

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -   I still need to cut 1 inch squares for cornerstones in garnet. No progress here.

3. Boho heart - The first section on the left is together. Time to make a few blocks for the next section.

4. maple leaves -  I have the sashings added to the blocks and I have the first 2 rows together. This is an older UFO.

5. fair and square - I have one whole row made - HAHA. If I ever have sew time again, I have all the parts ready to go. I just need time to sit and sew.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.  I haven't quilted anything for 2 weeks. Sadly, I am behind.

Stash report May 15, 2022

No changes in or out on my stash report. We have been busy in the garden. We have added worms to the garden, counting on the little wrigglers to make compost out of garbage.

We have buried 5 buckets in different spots in the garden and we will see if we can get a better soil. The price  of most garden supplies has jumped at least 20 percent, especially fertilizer.

Stash report  May 15, 2022

fabric added: 0 yards

fabric added year to date: 49 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date: 128 yards

79 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 1 days last week. Again,  I didn't even go to friday group sew.

I have started the border on the friendsheep rug. I have added a black wool "binding" all around so that I can hook to the very edge. I am using recycled white and black wool on the border.

more blossom time

I made blossom time blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I wasn't sure how I would fit green into the mix since there was so much green already with the stems and leaves. I think I found some greens that were ok. I used 2 1/2 in strips to cut these. I used pieces that were at least 8 inches long. If I had any left over, in green, I cut for more stems and leaves. I need a piece that is at least 9 inches long to cut a set.

I planted orange mint last night to my herb garden. I have one other I am trying to grow called mojito mint. It didn't start well under grow lights so we will see if it can direct sow. Today is a plant sale at a church to raise money for missions. I think we are out of places to plant here but, it is always fun to see what others are growing. I hope you all have something growing this summer.

My favorite tomatoes to eat are cherokee purple and yellow stripey. We decided to grow mortgage lifter for canning, because of the name and back story was fun. The names are just fun.

fair and square blocks

I knew I was going to need more projects to take for our Friday and open sews coming up in April. I decided to dig out Fair and square and see what was next for moving this project along. This has been a puzzle from the beginning

I sewed the string triangles into twosies. I joined the twosies to make blocks.

I added black frames to the blocks.

I thought I was ready to start piecing rows, but the string blocks didn't fit. Back to the instructions -
I needed to trim.

Now, I am ready to make rows.

string blocks

I grabbed a bucket of strings and crumbs and started sewing pieces together for my hole in the barn quilt. I feel like I am going to run out of the strips before I am done with all the colors for the rainbow scrap challenge. I only need the rectangles to be 2 1/2 inch wide. It is a great opportunity to use the small pieces.

I am aiming for rectangles that are 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches.

I enjoyed my Mother's day with church and family for dinner. But, it certainly wore me out for today.

Stash report May 8, 2022

happy Mother's Day. I will see One of my children today with my great daughter in law, and 7 of my Grandchildren. Happy day for me. I will spend primary hour at church with 7 and 8 year olds and mother them all I can. They are such a cute age.

The big piece of fabric is 108 wide. And the fabric rolls were 1 1/2 inch strips that I need for 2 different projects.

Stash report  May 8, 2022

fabric added: 4 1/2 yards

fabric added year to date: 49 yards  I am doing better  in 2021 it was 63 yards, in 2020 it was 70 yards, in 2019 it was 105 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date: 128 yards

79 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 1 days last week. I didn't even go to friday group sew.

I have hooked the sky all the way to the right. I am almost done with the sky. Next I will have to hook the border, which I have finally decided. I plan on a black and white border.

green sweet tooth blocks

I am happy to dig around in my green scraps for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.  This week I made green crumb blocks and added HSTS to make my sweet tooth blocks. I found this quilt on sane crazy crumby quilt blog here. The crumb centers are 4 1/2 inches with 2 1/2 inch HSTS. So, the side pieces are 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches and the top and bottom are  pieces are 2 1/2 x 6 1/2. I think Jenny Doan did a you tube video.

And it was finally plant shopping day. I look forward to this every year. We didn't buy anything we could not eat this time. Our new adventure was a jerusalem artichoke. We had read about this years ago as a potato replacement, so it was a surprise to see a plant for sale after all this time. - just had to have it. The project manager at the greenhouse chased us down to ask us to let him know how it does for us this year. How fun. I am starting a new strawberry bed, so I was glad to get strawberries. We haven't had much luck with strawberries here. But, I love them, and I keep trying.

5 quilts May 6, 2022

my last 5 quilts progress report April 25, 2022

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - green-  I made 7 candy blocks. This makes 35 blocks in rainbow colors for this quilt. I am aiming for 56. I like making them and it uses the smallest pieces, so it is a new favorite.

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -   I need to cut 1 inch squares for cornerstones in garnet. yuk

3. Boho heart - I am working on section 1- the farthest left section. It is squirrelly to put together. I have to take a break when it gets too confusing. When I come back, it makes more sense. I did this at our guild's open sew where I had room to lay it out and see what I was doing.

4.. maple leaves - I am still adding sashing to each block. I thought the darker colors would be fun pops of color, but, they stand out in the picture a little too much. I decided I would turn a few leaves the wrong way, too. Just for fun.

5.. fair and square - I have the framing around the blocks, and I have sewn the string triangles, into 20 sets of 4.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.  As I am finishing old UFOs, the number is growing.

soap sacks

sometime ago,  I showed some soap sacks that I was crocheting. I have filled a small box of soap sacks for the rescue mission in town. I spent one evening attaching the labels and adding the soap. I have 32, but, my daughter has donated more than 300. I have a few more odd skeins of cotton yarn, I might make some more.

Luckily someone sent me a link for the homeless initiative https://www.soapsacks.com/

Our bleeding heart is doing really well this Spring. We bought this as a nearly dead plant at the master gardener sale 3 years ago. I wasn't sure it would survive.

May one monthly goal

I have no idea how to finish this little quilt. I have procrastinated and procrastinated. That is why I am making it my one monthly goal or I will never see this finished. Every time I think about it, the sun wasn't in the right place, or the wind was all wrong for me to do it. I have been waiting for the perfect conditions and they aren't going to happen. I started this English paper piecing project on an airplane going to and from  visiting my daughter. It has been awhile.

It looks like I need to fill in some edges

I had a jelly roll and decided to make each point of the star different.

stash report May 1, 2022

There has been no real change in the stash numbers. I have been busy nesting for Spring. We are starting seeds for the garden, making some meals ahead for the busy days ahead, working outside to get the garden ready for planting. And, this year, that takes most of our energy. I haven't been in my sewing room all week. I did go to an open sew yesterday and worked on three projects - fair and square, maple leaves, and boho heart.

I have started harvesting our weeds and started the dehydrator. Dandelion flowers and violets are great for skin health. I use them in skin creams and soaps. Dandelion leaves are good for digestion, and blood sugar, cholesterol. They are a bitter for salads. The root can make a healthy drink.

This is a new weed to me this year - great name- purple dead nettle. Who doesn't want to eat that? It is good for the kidneys, is an anti- inflammatory. Information says it is sweet tasting. I haven't tried it.

I sewed 0 days last week.

I made it a little farther across the sky with my friendsheep rug hooking project.

hunters star and waffles

This is the last week in April for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I finished cutting and sewing for my Hunter's star

Then, I felt that I had enough of a variety to try putting 2 blocks together and see how it looks. I think I am going to like it a lot.

I made s few waffle stamp blocks in pink to finish the month. I thought I had made all the blocks I would need last year, but, somehow I was very short when I tried to put them together. I think I misplaced some of them. So, I am trying to make more this year, too. I don't mind, I like making them.

Spring is here. Our lawn mower is in the hospital. Our neighbor has mowed 5 times already.- LOL -I am harvesting chives and dehydrating them. I only have 2 clumps of them, but, they are very busy growing. I think the rhubarb needs a haircut, too.

zip it up

I started a new block, recently, called Zipper. I saw it on sane, crazy crumby quilts, and, she referred to Klein meisje quilts

I wasn't sure I was going to start sewing these this year, but, I couldn't resist. I cut the pink for April's rsc color. And, the next thing I know, I am sewing them.

I have been cutting scraps for stashbuster block from Border Creek Station Pattern Company, but, this is my first block. The idea is to make 1 each week. I guess I am behind.

I spent a little time harvesting weeds. I have peppermint, viola, dandelion leaves and flowers and wild chives. I hope to get them on the dehydrator racks soon. The box made me smile. I only meant to cut the chives, but the dandelions were so pretty and the violas were growing with the dandelions.

5 quilts April 25, 2022

My 5 quilts progress report. My last report April 13th

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - pink - I started a new block this month called zipper? I am thinking 12 of each color/month

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -   I am making setting triangles with the hourglasses. I have set B finished

and the cornerstones

3. Boho heart - I made 2 blocks in group 1 in orange.

4. DSP9-  I had a box of 9 patches that I had set aside to make disappearing 9 patches. I finished the two sides that were not finished with the arrangement of the dsp blocks. And I added a border. It is now ready for the to be quilted "vault"

5. wonderland holiday runner I used a random number generator for this older UFO - I pieced a back and prepared binding. It is ready for quilting and then I can add the prairie points at each end. sent to the "vault"

6. maple leaves - I am still adding sashing to each block

7. fair and square - I need to finish each block and trim the string blocks. I started sewing 2 triangles together and noticed they need trimming. They won't fit at this size. It helps to look at the pattern.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. I am not getting ahead on this. I now have 44 in my pile. As I am finishing old UFOs, the number is growing.
